McCurdy Smokehouse
This collection consists of 40 digital photographs taken by photographer, Frank Van Riper, in 1990—the last year the McCurdy herring smokehouse operated along the downtown waterfront of Lubec, Maine. The smokehouse was the last of its kind in the United States. Van Riper has been a long-time summer resident of Lubec, Maine and the photography columnist of the Washington Post. Many of the McCurdy smokehouse buildings still stand and the complex is now operated as a museum.
