HE TIDES INSTITUTE & MUSEUM OF ART is in the process of developing production
facilities for printmaking, letterpress and digital imaging facilities on the
third floor of its building in downtown Eastport. The facilities will be
developed over the coming year as work continues on the restoration of the
historic Tides Institute building. The Tides Institute is also developing the
Hand Line Press in conjunction with these facilties. Workshops will again be offered
beginning in the summer of 2007. Basic equipment currently includes a
Vandercook Number 4 proofing press, a M.M. Kelton etching press, a 6x9 Sigwalt
tabletop letterpress, a 34 inch Toulmin board shear, a Teaneck Desktop Exposure
Unit, a considerable quantity of wood and metal type (including type that was
once used by the St. Andrews, New Brunswick Beacon newspaper), Apple G4 laptop
computers, an Epson Expression 636 Scanner, and a Nikon Coolpix 5400 camera.
Additional and upgraded equipment will be added over the coming year. For more
