TIDES INSTITUTE AND MUSEUM OF ART MISSION
The Tides Institute and Museum of Art builds and exhibits cultural collections, creates
new cultural works, and strengthens cultural ties within the greater Passamaquoddy
region, between New England and the Atlantic Provinces, and to the wider world.
CORE PHILOSOPHY AND VALUES
- Establish a cultural institution of significance in the greater Passamaquoddy
region.
- Strengthen ties among cultural institutions within the greater Passamaquoddy
region, and within New England and the Atlantic Provinces.
- Actively work in a collaborative manner with other institutions on both sides of the
U.S./Canada border.
- Establish and care for broad and accessible art and cultural collections reflective of
the greater Passamaquoddy region in particular, and of New England and the
Atlantic Provinces in general.
- Foster the creation of new cultural works through facilities for and programs in
printmaking, letterpress, photography and digital production, and through
partnerships with other institutions.
- Serve as a regional model and resource for historic preservation practices.
- Engage in documentary work and research of the culture of the greater
Passamaquoddy region.
- Serve as a regional resource for digital collection production and conservation.
- Establish and operate exhibition and archival spaces that meet professional
standards.
- Be accessible on a year-round basis.
